Super advance– it can take up to 24 hours. Day of the show– no more than 5 minutes.

I can check “have an argument with Stephen Colbert” off of my bucket list…. Now on to “have an argument with the current president”

I really enjoyed both of you interacting with Stephen. I think he also enjoyed going toe to toe with someone who dare challenge his knowledge of the Tolkien-verse.

Let me know if you ever get a fountain guard helmet!

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain_guards#section_1

And here you can see the helmet

http://www.collecttolkien.com/Helmets.htm

They are also listed somewhere in the lotr books in a list of soldiers positions and it said that their key mark was the feathered points that came out of the helmet.
But you are right in that the description of the guard comes mainly from Jackson’s movies

I was actually the guy that asked Stephen for the helmet that you mentioned in your article! I just got the urge to google it and saw your post. It was such a blast to read your recap (even though I could probably repeat it word-for-word!) I just wanted to say thank you for posting this, and tell you that it’s good to hear that my friend was wrong about the fountain guard name. FTR, I’ve never read Tolkein and was just going off of what he called it. Regardless, it was a great show!

Thanks again!
Cam Yearty
